Need extra income during the coronavirus? Look no further than this marketplace for freelancers.

Many of my fellow freelancers & creatives are losing income during the coronavirus crisis, particularly friends in public-facing industries such as film, music, and photography.

If you’re a creative and looking for work, I highly recommend checking out Fiverr right now, particularly Fiverr Pro if you have a strong resume. Fiverr and Fiverr Pro are online marketplaces where freelancers can offer their services to clients all over the world.

The difference between Fiverr and Fiverr Pro

Fiverr: This is the original platform where freelancers offer their services at a highly competitive rate. Anyone can create a Fiverr account.

Fiverr Pro: This is a separate platform for top-of-the-line freelancers to connect with clients who are willing to pay top rates. For Fiverr Pro, you must apply first.

I’ve been on Fiverr Pro for 19 months. I’ve made $20,000 doing part-time writing work. Fiverr Pro currently makes up 20–25% of my income. Last year was my best year financially, all thanks to the extra income I earned on Fiverr Pro. I’m confident I could have made more, but Fiverr Pro is supplemental for me right now. As a freelancer, I’m fortunate to have work outside of the platform, but during lean months, I relied more heavily on Fiverr Pro and made 75–100% of my income.

Thankfully, my freelance work has not been affected by the coronavirus — yet — but I know if we’re looking at months and months of an economic downturn, my freelance situation could change quickly. That is why I’m thankful to have Fiverr in my back pocket. Because Fiverr is a global platform, I’m still receiving Fiverr Pro job offers in the middle of the crisis. This week, I snagged $600 worth of work on Fiverr Pro to supplement my current income.

Pros and cons of Fiverr and Fiverr Pro

Pros:
-Make extra or full-time income (full-time income won’t happen right away as you’ll need to build your client base)
-Meet new clients from all over the world
-Develop long-term relationships with new clients
-Work on a variety of interesting projects
-Boost your resume
-Select sellers are able to use the Bring Your Own
Business feature, where you bring in your own clients and Fiverr waves their 20% commission fee
-Select sellers on Fiverr can create a studio, which is currently in beta mode, where they connect with other sellers to offer an array of services to a client
-Customer service is quick and helpful
-Fiverr’s platform is incredibly easy to use

Cons:
-Fiverr takes a 20% commission
-Once in a blue moon you get a challenging client that causes a lot of stress, but for me that happens less than 5% of the time
-Fiverr doesn’t send you a tax return, so you must remember to claim your income come tax season
-The wait time to receive your funds ranges from 7–14 days, depending on your ranking
-There is a $1 fee to direct deposit to your bank and $3 fee for bank transfer

If you’re thinking of joining Fiverr or applying for Fiverr Pro, I want to point out that it will take some time to build your customer base, BUT if you’ve found yourself with ample time on your hands due to job loss, now might be a great time to join. If you do join, make sure to tell your network. You never know who is currently looking for one-off or long-term freelancers.
